SCMP CEO Departs After Three Years at Alibaba-Owned Hong Kong Newspaper

The chief executive of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s South China Morning Post is leaving after more than three years at the helm, part of a reshuffle that will saddle its current top editor with responsibility for boosting readership during a media downturn. Catherine So, a former Expedia and AOL executive who joined the SCMP in 2022, will step down from her position, according to a staff memo reviewed by Bloomberg News. Editor-in-Chief Tammy Tam takes over many of her business-focused obligations in the newly created role of publisher, while longtime deputy Chow Chung-yan assumes her mantle.
