Science teacher Scott Collins is set to lead a group of students to another amazing place on the planet, exploring reefs and jungles. LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School science teacher Scott Collins has seen some amazing places around the world. Collins has organized trips, which are unaffiliated with Lemont High School, since 2017. Collins has taken students to see Yellowstone National Park, Maui, Alaska, Roatan, the Galapagos Islands, Baja California Sur and the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Now, in June 2026, Collins will lead a trip to Belize. The GreenEdventures trip is open to students who will be a freshman in high school in fall 2026, all the way up to university students who are pursuing a STEM major. "I chose Belize because of its wide-ranging ecosystems and biodiversity," Collins told Patch. "We're going to be able to explore some of the most pristine and diverse reefs on the planet along with jungle ecosystems that are home to a wide range of animals completely different from what we'll see in the waters." The group will also explore the Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave system, a sacred place for the ancient Mayan civilization full of relics and incredible cave formations, Collins said. The trip is 10 days, and flies into Belize International Airport. If you're interested in the trip, you can check out the website here and email Collins at sgcollins80@gmail.com.
