The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, has stated that the school placement system in place as of 2024 was effective and did not require a major review. According to him, the system functions similarly to Ghana’s Constitution it doesn’t need frequent overhauls, but rather proper application and adherence to established protocols. Mr. Asare emphasized that the issues currently being observed in the school placement process are largely due to implementation gaps rather than fundamental flaws in the system itself. “No policy or system is perfect, and the school placement system is no exception. However, the version that existed before 2025 was solid and did not require any significant changes. The challenges we are witnessing now stem from recent minor reviews, not from the original structure of the system,” he explained. He cited a specific example, noting that a student from Jukwaa Senior High School in the Central Region was recently placed in a school in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region a scenario that would not have occurred under the 2024 system. Mr. Asare concluded by urging stakeholders to revert to the placement model that was in use as of 2024. “We simply need to return to what worked in 2024. If we do that and ensure strict adherence to the system’s protocols, everything will be fine,” he said. Story: Nyamebeye Kofi Ansah Sasraku
