Scarborough campsite named Best in England

St Helens Camping and Caravan Park, nestled in 36 acres of picturesque countryside in Wykeham, Scarborough, has achieved the AA’s highest Five-Star Platinum Award as well as being named the top campsite in England and Overall for 2025/26. This prestigious accolade comes following a multi-million-pound investment into state-of-the-art facilities, including modern amenities blocks, serviced pitches, luxurious glamping pods, and eco-friendly site enhancements such as a 150kw solar array - all designed to elevate the guest experience while preserving the park’s natural charm in the tranquil countryside near the Yorkshire Coast. Judged through a combination of guest reviews, anonymous AA inspections, and facility assessments, the awards recognise excellence in visitor experience. Only one site in England receives the honour each year. Established in 1976, St Helens remains part of Dawnay Estates, accommodating caravans, motorhomes, pods and camping. With over 150 touring pitches, two separate camping fields and the ability to hire camping or glamping pods, the park offers a masterclass in premium campaign holiday accommodation. On-site facilities include a licensed shop, café, and launderette, ensuring comfort and convenience for every type of camper. Simon Roe, General Manager at St Helens, says: “We are incredibly proud to have received this incredible award. It’s a testament to our dedicated team and the wonderful guests who return year after year. As a family-run business, we’ve poured our hearts into creating a welcoming, first-class home from home destination, and to be recognised as the best in England is truly amazing.” Lord Downe, Owner of Dawnay Estates, says: “It is an immense honour for St Helens to be named ‘Best in England 2025/26’ at the AA Caravan and Camping Awards, the highest recognition in our industry. This achievement is a proud moment for everyone connected with the park and estates, and it reflects the vision and dedication that has guided our investment in recent years. “The park is very close to my heart, and I still remember the initial excitement I felt when it first opened half a century ago. It’s been great to see the park continue to flourish and bring joy to so many others throughout the years. “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our exceptional team, whose hard work has made St Helens a place our guests return to year after year. This award belongs to them as much as it does to the Estate.”
