COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina native Charlamagne Tha God is among those reaching out to help families in the state ahead of the freeze in SNAP benefits. The Broad River Business Alliance said the popular radio host donated to help 208 Richland County families through its Emergency Community Response System. BRBA said the system aids families with food baskets and other essential supplies. BRBA also said Charlamagne is challenging others to match his contribution, including South Carolina businesses and community leaders. The alliance recently opened a queue for families who need assistance at 803-939-6544. Live operators will only begin responding to calls on Nov. 1, when SNAP benefits will be frozen due to the ongoing shutdown of the federal government.
