In a massive case of robbery, masked men loaded with country-made pistols and other weapons looted a branch of State Bank of India (SBI) in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district. As per the preliminary information, 58 kg gold and Rs 8 crore cash was stolen from the bank.
As per the local reports, robbers barged into the bank on Tuesday evening, tied the employees, looted and fled. The car used by them was found in Maharashtra’s Pandharpur.
A joint search operation by Karnataka and Maharashtra police is underway. Officials have reached the spot and several people have gathered in front of the branch.

Several local media reports also state that the robbers were wearing military uniforms; they threatened the manager, cashier, and employees, preventing them from pressing the alarm button.
Canara Bank Robbery In Karnataka
Before this, another bank robbery sent shockwaves through Karnataka. In June 2025, robbers looted 59 kg of pledged gold and Rs 5.2 lakh from a Canara Bank’ Vijaypura branch in Karnataka, same city where this recent SBI loot is orchestrated.
The police arrested three key suspects, including a bank manager, in connection with Canara Bank robbery.
According to police, Vijaykumar Miriyal, the former manager of the Canara Bank branch in Managuli village, was the mastermind of the robbery. He was arrested along with Chandrashekhar Nerella, a former bank employee turned contractor and casino operator, and Sunil Moka, who served as Miriyal’s assistant.
