KUCHING, Oct 1: The Sarawak Biodiversity Council (SBC) and the Osong Medical Innovation Foundation (KBIOHealth) have signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in areas of biotechnology, focusing on joint research and development (R&D), regulatory collaboration, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance yesterday.
The MoU was signed between SBC Council Chairman Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel and, KBIOHealth Chairman and CEO Lee Myung-su.
The MoU exchange ceremony, held at the Osong Medical Innovation Foundation Complex in South Korea on September 30, 2025, marks a significant milestone in Sarawak’s efforts to build a competitive biotechnology ecosystem and expand its presence in the global bioeconomy.
The event included a working visit to KBIOHealth’s New Drug Development Center, Non- Clinical Evaluation and Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Center—a world-class biomedical research and production facilities.
“We aimed to work together with KBIO on a joint R&D for pre-clinical testing and production of bioproducts. Today’s MoU is to benefit both the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) and KBIO,” said Muhammad Abdullah who is also Deputy Sarawak Secretary in a press statement.
Meanwhile, Lee expressed his desire to develop international industry through the MoU and hoped to further advance its implementation.
The ceremony was attended by Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Adana Jed, Chief Executive Officer of SBC Dato Dr Yeo Tiong Chia, Controller of Environmental Quality Sarawak Datu Jack Liam, Director of the Department of Agriculture Dominic Chunggat, Chief Technical Officer of Integrated Research Associates Dr Mary Jane Cardosa, Instacom Engineering Sdn Bhd’s Chief Executive Officer Anne Kung Soo Ching, and Chief Executive Officer of BioVerde Technologies Sdn Bhd (BVT) Hazwan Razak.
Representing KBIOHealth were Kim Hyunil of Bio Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Centre and Kim Seunghyun from Management Support Team.
The Osong Medical Innovation Foundation (KBIOHealth) is a leading public institution in South Korea dedicated to advancing biomedical innovation.
