Samsung Display president Lee Chong has confirmed that production of the 8.6-generation OLED panels will begin next year, and also revealed plans to supply foldable OLED phone screens to a north American client, widely speculated to be Apple.Lee stated that preparations have begun to supply organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screens for foldable phones to clients, but did not disclose specifics of the deal and the clients involved, per the report by Chosun Biz.Samsung Display’s 8.6th-generation OLED technology uses larger glass substrates than the current 6th-generation product, boosting efficiency in producing panels for laptops and tablets. The company has earmarked 4.1 trillion won for the 2026 OLED line. The OLED screen expected to be produced in Q3 next year is likely to be supplied to Apple.ET has reported that Apple is looking to manufacture between 8 and 10 million units of the folding phone in its first year of production, according to Tom’s Guide.Apple is also looking to double production by 2027, an indication that it is confident that iPhone Fold can become a significant player in the smartphone industry.Samsung Display is known to be the exclusive supplier of OLED panels to be installed in Apple’s foldable phone to be released next year. Apple is expecting this new device to boost its shipments by 10% in 2026.While competitors like Samsung, Google, Motorola, Huawei, and others have already rolled out foldable phones, one is yet to appear from Apple’s stables.Lee said the second half of the year for Samsung will be positive, with the release of flagship products by key clients. Additionally, the OLED supply volume is expected to increase, he said. The OLED screen expected to be produced in Q3 next year is likely to be supplied to Apple.
