Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra might make wireless charging worth using again

Samsung has not upgraded the wireless charging speeds on its flagship Galaxy phones in over five years now. But that will supposedly change with the Galaxy S26 Ultra next year, as it will support faster 25W wireless charging speeds. Most flagship Chinese Android phones can top up wirelessly at 50W or faster. In contrast, Samsung and Google flagships have so far been limited to 15W wireless charging. Google finally made amends with the Pixel 10 Pro XL this year, adding Qi 2.2 and 25W wireless charging. A report from ET News claims Samsung will also follow in Google and Apple's footsteps and add 25W Qi 2.2 wireless charging support to the Galaxy S26 Ultra next year (via @Jukanlosreve). This should allow the phone to top up its 5,000mAh cell notably faster when placed on a compatible wireless charger. For comparison, the Galaxy S25 Ultra can only pull 15W of power wirelessly. Apple also added faster 25W wireless charging support to iPhones with the iPhone 16 Pro lineup in 2024. Rumors also indicate that Samsung will boost wired charging on the S26 Ultra to 60W, which should significantly reduce the time needed for a full 0–100% charge. All Galaxy S26 models could see faster wireless charging The report suggests that Samsung will even boost the wireless charging speeds on the regular Galaxy S26 and S26+ to 20W —up from 15W. Besides the boost in wireless charging speeds, all three phones in the S26 lineup will feature built-in magnets for native Qi 2.2 support. This will enable them to magnetically snap onto compatible magnetic accessories and charging pads for a secure and more stable experience. Samsung might also add support for faster wireless charging on the Galaxy Z series. However, it's unclear if the technology will make its way to the Z Fold 8 next year. Unlike traditional smartphones, heat management is a bigger issue on foldables, especially on devices as sleek as the Z Fold.
