Samsung’s Secret AI Glasses Could Take On Meta’s Ray-Bans

Alongside its announcement of the Galaxy XR last night, Samsung also talked briefly about a new pair of XR glasses. This was a very short tease, but Samsung did mention that they are working with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster on a pair of AI-powered smart glasses that would go up against Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. Samsung’s Jay Kim teased the glasses at the end of the livestream, saying, “We’re also really excited about the AI glasses that we’re currently building together with Google. We’re working with two of the most forward-thinking brands in eyewear, Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, to introduce new devices that fit into your lifestyle.” Now, while we don’t have confirmation, we do believe that these are the same glasses that Google showed off at Google I/O back in May. During that demo, it was pretty short, only lasting about 5 minutes, but it was pretty cool and obviously very early. Samsung is looking to hit two different markets with these brands and will include “cutting-edge” AI features that are co-developed with Google. Gentle Monster is developing “fashion-forward” glasses, while Warby Parker will be eyewear designed for general consumers that is likely to be much cheaper. Samsung left us with more questions than answers Yes, this was only a tease and not an announcement, so Samsung did leave us with more questions than answers here. But it’s unlikely that we’ll see these glasses launch anytime soon. We’re betting on at least next Summer, if not a bit later. Though Samsung, Google, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker will have a tough hill to climb against Meta’s smart glasses, which have become synonymous with a lot of content creators because of the built-in camera. Not to mention the design and the price as well. Hopefully, Samsung’s AI glasses will launch sooner rather than later.
