Kenya’s Samman Vohra is taking on a new challenge in his rally career; fighting for the Africa rally championship title at the ultimate event in Tanzania this weekend.
Vohra in the Skoda Fabia rally2 is only eight points behind leader Yasin Nasser. With a slim points difference, the title can sway either way.
The Kenyan champion set the fastest time in Friday’s qualifying stage. And he has got off to an impressive start on Leg 1.
“The feeling is good. We did qualifying to have a feel of the car and get us back into the rhyme.”
“The main action starts on Saturday. So we are keeping the same way and keep a clean race,” he said after qualifying stage.
Vohra has proved to be a fast driver. The crew will need ultimate victory to actualise their dream of a maiden ARC title.
However, their contention will be interrupted by crews like home hero Ahmed Huwel who will be debuting his Toyota Yaris as well as reigning ARC champion Karan Patel; who will all be eying the victory.
Vohra however remains positive.
“We are not doing anything different. We shall just keep our pace like before, if God wills, then the title will come home and if not, we shall fight again. But we are not under any pressure to race against anyone.”
“The other crews are not taking any pressure from anybody. Everyone is here to drive their race, so we are also here to drive our race,”
