TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Samator Indo Gas Tbk (AGII) ensures that the company's factory in Cikande, Serang, Banten, is operating normally despite the discovery of radioactive Cesium-137 in the Cikande Modern Industrial Zone. All Samator products are safe. "Not contaminated with radioactive Cesium-137 and meet the highest safety standards," said Samator Indo Gas Vice President Director Imelda Mulyani Harsono in a disclosure at the Indonesia Stock Exchange on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.Imelda stated that the investigation and scientific references by the HSE team confirmed that industrial gas products are physically inert and produced in a closed system. This process ensures that gas products are not contaminated with radioactive substances.Imelda added that Samator Indo Gas uses an air purification system with MS 13X or molecular sieve as a purification agent throughout its factories. "Chemically, and proven by an international paper (Journal of Hazardous Materials Advanced 16 (2004) 100458), MS 13X can act to remove Cesium-137 if present in the air," she said.Imelda stated that the company's production process does not use water as the main medium, so the water contamination route or environmental issues are not relevant to the final product. Water usage is limited only to equipment washing, with separate waste isolation and control systems from the production line. "Quality control is carried out strictly by the internal team and verified by independent parties," she said.Previously, the Radioactive Cesium-137 Contamination Handling Task Force temporarily relocated 63 residents in the Red Zone (F2) in Kampung Barengkok, Sukatani Village. The 63 people are from 19 families.Rasio Ridho Sani, the Deputy for Pollution Control and Environmental Damage at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH), said that relocating people from areas with high radiation levels or red zones is important to protect their health and safety. This can also accelerate decontamination efforts. "Also, to minimize airborne Cs-137 radiation spreading during decontamination activities to protect community health and safety," said Rasio.Rasio explained that decontamination efforts are ongoing both inside and outside the industrial zone. Within the zone, 20 out of 22 factories detected with Sesium-137 have been successfully decontaminated. "These 20 factories have been declared safe, clean, and clear by Bapeten and BRIN," said Rasio.Ricky Juliansyah contributed to this articleEditor's Choice: Indonesia to Evacuate Residents over Suspected Cesium-137 Radiation Leak in BantenClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
