Saira Banu Remembers ‘Dear Friend’ Zarine Khan: ‘She Knew The Art Of Making Things Look Warm & Pleasant’

Zarine Khan, wife of veteran actor and filmmaker Sanjay Khan, passed away at the age of 81 on November 6. The former actress, model, and interior designer breathed her last at her residence in Mumbai after battling age-related ailments for some time. She is survived by her husband and their four children — Sussanne Khan, Simone Arora, Farah Ali Khan, and Zayed Khan. Ever since the news of her demise broke, the film industry paid their heartfelt tribute for the actress. The latest one to offer her condolences is veteran actress Saira Banu. Saira Banu Pens A Touching Tribute She took to Instagram to mourn Zarine Khan’s demise, remembering her as a “dear friend full of grace, warmth, and wisdom.” She began her post with, “Zarine was very close to me, a dear friend with whom I shared many wonderful moments. She, Appaji and I would spend such lovely hours together…It was only in later years, when health began to trouble us, that we stopped meeting as often. But the bond of affection remained untouched.” “And you see at various occasions I was really surprised at this woman’s wisdom and how intelligently…just how patiently she handled her life…she knew the art of making things look warm and pleasant even on days when life wasn’t as pleasant. I always thought there was so much to learn from her,” she added. The veteran actress later praised Zarine’s elegance and artistic sensibility, saying, “Zarine had a remarkable grace about her house proud, artistic, and deeply rooted in beauty. Much like Appaji and myself, she had an eye for the finest things. We often found ourselves drawn to the same embroidery, the same designs even the same jewellery! I remember how Zarine and Shobha Kapoor would ask Appaji “Humare Liye Bhi Aisa Kada Banwaiye, Jo Saira Ne Pehna Hai”, “Humare Liye Bhi Aisi Earring Banwaiye Jo Saira Ne Pehni Hai”. It’s easy to put that she absolutely admired Appaji’s taste.” Reflecting on Zarine’s marriage, Saira added, “What I admired most about Zarine was her quiet strength in holding her marriage together. Abbas was a flamboyant man, full of life and colour, and she complemented him with serenity and understanding. Her perspective on life and marriage was truly exemplary. Their lasting marriage, stands on the foundation of her patience, wisdom, and the deep love that sustained them through time.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Saira Banu Khan (@sairabanu) Saira Banu’s Nod To Sulakshana Pandit In the same post, Saira also remembered actress and singer Sulakshana Pandit. Calling her co-star from the 1976 hit Hera Pheri “a wonderful young lady, full of love and humility,” she penned, “And then there was Sulakshana Pandit so devoted to her family, so full of love. She sang like a nightingale, her voice touched hearts with its purity. A wonderful young lady, she would often visit our home after our marriage, accompanied by her talented brothers Jatin and Lalit and revered father Pandit Ji. I remember her fondly her laughter, her humility, her sparkle. Later, destiny brought us together again when we worked on Prakash Mehra’s “Hera Pheri” memories that will forever stay close to my heart.” “Today, as I remember both Zarine and Sulakshana, my heart feels heavy, yet full of love. They were women of immense grace and warmth and I shall always cherish the moments we shared. May their gentle souls rest in peace and their light continue to shine eternally in the heavens above,” she concluded.
