Saints are going above and beyond to show just how expendable an NFL rookie can be with their latest roster move

That being said, New Orleans also view him as somewhat expendable since they’ve consistently made him available to other teams around the NFL when making other roster moves between their practice squad and active roster. This situation is the reality across the NFL, though. When you’re a young, depth piece to a roster, you have familiarity with an orgnaziaciton, but your job is always up for grabs. As the fourth QB in the mix for New Orleans, Dekkers may not actually hit the playing field in a game, but he is useful in practices and simulating situations in preparation for the team’s defense. QB Jake Haener is also on the Saints practice squad as well.

“Earlier in his college career, Dekkers was a quarterback for the Iowa State Cyclones. Many saw a bright future ahead of him with ISU. Unfortunately, his time as a Cyclone ended abruptly after he permanently lost his NCAA eligibility due to gambling on Iowa State games. Dekkers has also been working with former NFL head coach Jon Gruden. The long-time football mind has advocated for Dekker’s potential and talent so far throughout this NFL Draft process for him.” — A to Z Sports

Dekkers was just cut from the practice squad on Wednesday. Just a day later, he’s back with the team in some capacity. With his addition to the PS, veteran wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. was waived by the Saints.
