Rylan Clark worried he was going to die after frightening ordeal with Rob Rinder

Television personality Rylan Clark has opened up about a terrifying moment that left him fearing for his safety whilst filming his latest tv show alongside close friend Robert Rinder.

The duo set off for India for their series Rob and Rylan’s Passage to India. Following the triumph of BBC programme Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour, which witnessed them journeying across Italy, the pair have returned for a sequel, set to broadcast on Sunday, 14 September.

Whilst Rob expressed how he is “obsessed” with the spectacle and atmosphere they encountered upon arriving in the Indian capital New Delhi, Rylan disclosed how he genuinely feared for his safety during one particularly harrowing incident.

Speaking to the Radio Times, he recalled how the adventure rapidly deteriorated following their arrival, explaining: “I got off the plane, went through passport control, and got bit on my face.

“Then I was thrown into a rickshaw and I genuinely thought I was going to die. It was a huge culture shock. I’ve never been anywhere like that before in my life.”

The opening episode of the new series will see the duo arrive in New Delhi before boarding a crowded train bound for the state of Rajasthan during the religious festival, Diwali.

For the concluding episode of the series, the hosts will journey to Varanasi – amongst the globe’s most ancient cities and India’s spiritual heart – alongside the temples of Khajuraho. Although the duo had been acquainted prior to launching their BBC programme together, their bond has flourished tremendously following the documentary.

The pair tackled persistent speculation about a romantic relationship during their interview with the Radio Times, with Rylan explaining: “Everyone thinks we’re together because we’re doing this show and we show each other affection.”

Despite acknowledging his fondness for his co-presenter, Rylan maintained they would remain purely platonic, quipping that he would “be in prison because I would have smothered him with a pillow by now” if romance were involved.

Criminal barrister Rob rose to prominence in 2014 when he launched his own courtroom programme on ITV, Judge Rinder.

Following a similar structure to the popular American series Judge Judy, Rob utilised his former legal background to welcome participants onto the show to hear their minor disputes before delivering his final verdict on each matter.

Meanwhile, since achieving the quarter-finals of X-Factor in 2012, Rylan has remained a constant fixture on television, taking on presenting duties for programmes including Strictly: It Takes Two, This Morning, Supermarket Sweep, and Ready Steady Cook.
