Ryanair REFUSES to refund Huntingdon train attack hero who is too injured to fly

The hero who confronted the knifeman during the Huntingdon train attack has been refused a refund from Ryanair despite being too injured to fly. Mr Crean bravely stepped in to fight a man with a knife on the LNER train service to London on November 1 and saved lives in the process. He described how he stepped in and grabbed the attacker's arm to allow others to flee during the incident. As a result of his courageous actions, he suffered seven knife wounds and his head was sliced. The 61-year-old revealed he was stabbed on his hand, back and head during his tussle. He told the BBC he was determined not to let the knifeman past him until he knew everyone who had barricaded themselves in another car were safe. Mr Crean, a dedicated Nottingham Forest fan, had been planning to travel to Austria on Wednesday to watch his team play SK Strum Graz. However, his injuries meant that he was unable to fly - and Ryanair has refused to refund his ticket, NottinghamshireLive reports. The budget airline said: "All Ryanair air fares are non-refundable, which is why we strongly recommend passengers take out travel insurance in order to protect themselves if they can’t travel." One of Mr Crean's friends, Philip Chambers, said Ryanair's actions were "shocking". He continued: "I understand they have policies and I'd say I'm not surprised - but you think but they might change their mind when you think of the impact of what Stephen has done. They could at least reach out to him to privately given what's happened, but they can't even do that." A Just Giving page has been set up for Mr Crean by a group of Nottingham Forest fans who would like to provide him with "some financial support whilst he recovers from his injuries". So far, more than £53,800 has been raised. Among the donors was Nottingham Forest Football Club, which made a £10,000 donation to the fundraiser. The club has also given Mr Crean a complimentary season ticket for next season and has invited him to fly with the squad on a private jet to a Europa League game, which he is invited to watch from the directors box.
