Ryan Garcia removed as Jake Paul opponent option as talks begin for world title fight

Despite being shortlisted as one of Jake Paul’s potential replacement opponents, it seems as though Ryan Garcia has bigger plans. In just a few weeks time on November 14, Jake Paul is scheduled to make his next walk to the boxing ring to take on WBA world lightweight champion, Gervonta Davis. As soon as the fight was announced it was covered in controversy because of the huge weight difference between the two, so much so that they had to change the location of the fight after it was rejected by the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission. That isn’t the only controversy surrounding it, though, as it was recently announced that the fight is up in the air due to an ongoing investigation regarding recent accusations against ‘Tank’. Former world champion removed from shortlist to take on Jake Paul With the investigation into the accusations about Davis ongoing, Paul’s team are currently shortlisting a list of fighters who could replace the world champion. The caliber of fighters differ, with the likes of Francis Ngannou and Carl Froch having been reportedly offered the potential fight, as well as former world champion, Ryan Garcia. Garcia made his thoughts on the Paul vs Davis fight clear, labeling it delusional and slamming Paul for picking a fighter so much smaller than him. And despite being offered a potentially huge payday for a fight that he would be a huge favorite in, Garcia is instead in talks for a much bigger fight for his legacy. As reported by the Ring Magazine, talks are ongoing between ‘King Ryan’ and Mario Barrios, as they close in on a deal for a WBC welterweight title fight. The title fight is currently being targeted to take place in the first quarter of 2026, and contracts have been exchanged between promotions. Barrios’ last fight came against Manny Pacquiao this past July, and after a back-and-forth 12 rounds, the fight was declared a majority draw. Who will Jake Paul fight if not Ryan Garcia? At this point, it is still unclear whether ‘The Problem Child’ will take on ‘Tank’ Davis with several other opponents being considered. Not only that, but it is not guaranteed that Paul will fight on the originally scheduled date of November 14, and his next fight may be pushed back to December. As well as the aforementioned names having been offered the fight, Paul has also offered Terence Crawford and Nate Diaz the fight. Diaz already took on Paul back in 2023 when he took the 28-year-old to a decision, subsequently losing the fight.
