Russell Westbrook remains a free agent as the 2025-26 NBA season gets underway with preseason action. Unfortunately, there are very few teams around the league who need a player like Westbrook.
While there are not many teams who need a veteran point guard, there are a couple left who could consider him.
One of those teams could be the Milwaukee Bucks. As they look to convince Giannis Antetokounmpo to stay long-term, the Bucks cannot afford to leave any stone unturned when it comes to trying to contend for an NBA Finals run.

That being said, one former NBA player has spoken out and talked about Milwaukee as a potential Westbrook destination.
Russell Westbrook #4 of the Denver Nuggets dribbles against the Golden State Warriors in the second quarter at Chase Center on April 04, 2025 in San Francisco, California.
Kendrick Perkins believes that the Bucks should sign Westbrook.
“From reports, the only team that showed interest was Sacramento,” Perkins said. “Now the season has started and Russell Westbrook is not on a roster. Do I believe he should be? Absolutely. I think he should be on the Milwaukee Bucks right now. But the reality is, for the first time in probably 15 years, Russell Westbrook is not on a roster.”
Truthfully, the move would make a lot of sense. Milwaukee does not have a great rotation at the point guard position.
Right now, Kevin Porter Jr. is penciled in as the Bucks’ starting point guard. Cole Anthony would be the backup at this point. Both players are quality role players, but Westbrook would likely be a better option even at this stage of his career.
During the 2024-25 NBA season with the Denver Nuggets, Westbrook played a very important role. He appeared in 75 games and made 36 starts. In those games, he averaged 13.3 points per game to go along with 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals, while also shooting 44.9 percent from the floor and 32.3 percent from three-point range.

If Milwaukee had interest in signing Westbrook, a one-year deal would be the obvious solution. Should things not work out, the Bucks wouldn’t have to play the 36-year-old point guard and could simply part ways with him after the 2025-26 campaign.
Obviously, this is just an idea and Milwaukee has not been connected to Westbrook just yet. The fit would make a lot of sense, but the Bucks have yet to reach out to try and sign him.
