Project Coordinator for the Giant Anteater and Giant Armadillo Project from Sawariwau Village Angelbert Johnny recently represented the South Rupununi Conservation Society (SRCS) at the 9th Annual Half-Earth Day in Chicago, Illinois, USA, held under the theme, “From Wisdom to Action: Mentorship as a Force for Biodiversity.” The event, co-hosted by the E O Wilson Biodiversity Foundation and the Field Museum of Chicago on October 29, brought together scientists, Indigenous and community leaders, educators, business executives, and conservation organisations from around the world to share their visions for safeguarding biodiversity and ensuring a healthy planet for future generations. SRCS said via its Facebook page that Johnny participated in a workshop titled “Local Leaders, Practical Approaches, and Novel Tools for Monitoring and Conservation in Amazonia.” He also presented the workshop’s outcomes and shared insights from SRCS’s Giant Armadillo Project during a panel discussion, spotlighting the vital work taking place in the Rupununi to protect Guyana’s unique wildlife and ecosystems.
