Manchester United came out on the losing side in the derby, continuing a troubling start to the Premier League season – and some fans in the Manchester Evening News comments section say that if Ruben Amorim is unwilling to experiment with his system to improve results, he should leave. United have four points from their first four Premier League games this season after Erling Haaland’s performance consigned them to a conclusive 3-0 loss in the Manchester derby. Amorim’s side were also dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town in the second round, heaping further pressure on the club in what was supposed to be a hopeful season after a disappointing campaign. Amorim has overseen only eight wins out of the 31 Premier League games he has taken charge of, but he has signalled that he won’t budge on his tactics. Speaking after the game, he said: “When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man. We will talk about that every game that we lose. I don’t believe in that, in the system, or whatever. I believe in my way and I am going to play my way until I want to change. “My message is that I am going to give everything. I will do everything, always thinking about what is best for the club. That was always the same message. It is not my decision, the rest (on whether United change manager). Until I am here, I will do my best. I really want to win games. I am suffering more than them.” The Manchester Evenings News understands Amorim retains the support of the United hierarchy despite the clear issues. But some fans don’t fancy his chances of seeing the campaign through to the end. Reader SimplyRed60 says: “I can only imagine that Ratcliffe is already thinking about replacements – well before the January window.” Commenter Deanodo writes: “The look on Sir Jim’s face yesterday would suggest Amorim doesn’t have a future at United.” Indo says: “Amorim does not want to change his system. That leaves only one option. He has to go. If a coach refuses to change the system to make it work for his players, he is simply not a good coach. “I watched how Scott Parker went to a 5-4-1 set up to face Liverpool . And if not for Hannibal’s handball in added time, they would have gotten a draw. A good manager adjusts to the circumstances.” Redhound writes: “For how many more years should we be patient to see a bit of progress? Amorim’s style of play simply doesn’t and won’t ever work in the PL. There is almost no other club in PL playing this ugly, inefficient, toothless football. “How many more billions should the club spend for this hopeless experiment? He had for almost one year struggled to prove his value, unfortunately we are worse than under Erik ten Hag. Time to shake hands and let him and his overbloated technical team go back to where they belong.” Jungle Jerry says: “Sir Alex Ferguson took nearly 4 years, but the development and progress was visible. United were always in the top 8 and then top 4, before we won our first title under SAF. “However, there are barely any signs of improvement and progress under Amorim. 8 wins in 31 EPL games is a shameful result. Watching the players so confused and not really knowing what to do on the pitch is very disheartening and upsetting. “I’m sorry but this chief coach must go now, in order for United to salvage something from this season. This squad is capable of a top 10 placing but if the management persists with Amorim, United will be in a relegation battle this season.” Have your say!
