Ruben Amorim confirms Man Utd keeping situation as pair battle for No.1 shirt

Ruben Amorim has revealed that Manchester United don’t have a definitive number one goalkeeper . United brought in Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day for £18.2million , including add-ons, with the 23-year-old taking his place on the bench for the Manchester derby. Altay Bayindir has been between the sticks for all four of United’s Premier League fixtures this season , having joined for £4.3m from Fenerbahce as Andre Onana’s understudy on deadline day in September 2023. United permitted Onana to move to Trabzonspor on a season-long loan earlier this month, leaving them without an established first-choice keeper. When questioned about whether Bayindir was now United’s number one, Amorim responded: “No, nobody has a place that is his place,” reports the Manchester Evening News . “Everyone has to fight. Everyone is fighting for a place. I’m just trying to win games, trying to see what is the best option to win the next game. “So, in the end of the season, maybe it’s a different team on the pitch. We are just trying to win games. Trying to get the best connections to play better and, in the end, to win points.” Summer acquisition Benjamin Sesko has yet to find the net for United after five appearances. Sesko was handed his first full league start in the 3-0 defeat at City following his failure to score in two outings for Slovenia during their World Cup qualifiers this month. The 22-year-old was the tenth outfield player to step up for a penalty in the 12-11 shootout loss to Grimsby Town in the League Cup second round, despite battling cramp at the end of normal time. During the international break, Sesko admitted he required time to settle at United. The former RB Leipzig forward is three months younger than his predecessor, Rasmus Hojlund, who netted three goals in his last 35 outings for United before departing on loan to Napoli. United have registered the most shots in the Premier League this season, struck the frame of the goal more frequently than any other side, and Bruno Fernandes has crafted more opportunities than any other player.
