Roy Keane insists he's a surprisingly laid-back dad when it comes to his daughters' romantic lives. The Manchester United legend was one of the Premier League 's toughest players during his career, earning himself a reputation as a hard man. Having since become a familiar face on television as a pundit for Sky Sports and ITV , the Irishman has displayed a softer side in recent years, although his no-nonsense attitude has stayed intact . Keane, 54, has mainly shielded his personal life from the public eye over the years, although it's well known that he married his wife, Theresa Doyle, back in 1997 while still playing. The couple share five children, four of them being daughters. Shannon, Caragh, Aidan, Leah and Alanna are all now adults. During an appearance on The Tommy Tiernan Show in 2023, Keane was asked about living in a predominantly female household. He replied with "brilliant" in his usual blunt fashion, resulting in the audience laughing. He continued: "No, it is, brilliant. Really good kids, they're good, very good kids." Tiernan then asked him to explain the most difficult aspect of being a dad, which he struggled to answer before screwing his face up. The presenter jokingly added: "Are you f***ing kidding me are ya?" Keane shook his head and replied: "No, they're ok. Listen when they get a bit older, I suppose boyfriends and that type of carry on, yeah that can be (shrugs)." Tiernan, referencing Keane's public persona, quipped: "I'd say it'd be fairly intimidating meeting you now in all fairness. Clint Eastwood in the kitchen." But the former midfielder stated he wouldn’t be bothered, much to the intrigue of the live studio audience. "You'd be very surprised. Surely that's the same for everybody," he said. However, Tiernan still remained sceptical, saying: "You're so guarded. Maybe you're just so calm and settled and strong." Keane, holding his own, responded: "No, quite relaxed yeah. Do you want me to do a somersault or something? Very relaxed, nice drive up, we're good." Keane's eldest daughter Shannon, 31, maintains a low profile and it is not known whether she currently has a partner. The same can be said for his youngest daughter, Alanna, who is inactive on her public social media pages. However, one of his other daughters, Leah, is known to be engaged to Southampton star Taylor Harwood-Bellis. The 23-year-old defender made headlines by proposing to Leah last year on a chartered yacht sailing around the Amalfi Coast, before scoring on his England debut against Keane's Republic of Ireland. The couple announced on social media in August that she is now pregnant, with Leah writing above the post: “Half of me, half of you.” The baby will be Keane's fourth grandchild. There was more happy news for the Keane family recently as the pundit's only son, Aidan, who rarely appears in public, married his long-term partner in October, surrounded by friends and family. Roy shared a picture on social media with the newlyweds along with the caption: “Beautiful day celebrating my son and his wife.” Aidan's sister Caragh also took to social media to share pictures of the happy couple, writing: "The most perfect weekend celebrating my brother and my beautiful new sister." She posted a photo of the bridesmaids seeing the bride's wedding dress for the first time, as well as a snap of the newlyweds leaving the church after the ceremony. There is no confirmed public information about Caragh, 29, being in a relationship herself, although she has discussed her personal health journey openly . Caragh was diagnosed with lupus in 2021, an autoimmune condition that causes the body's immune system to mistakenly attack healthy tissue, resulting in blistered skin, severe joint pain and hair loss. The severity of her condition meant Caragh, who was teaching in Manchester at the time, was forced to leave her position. Nevertheless, she has since made a remarkable recovery and established her own gut-friendly cereal brand, Superkeen, which is now thriving, much to her famous father's delight.
