Rowan's Julianna Giordano named NJAC's top defensive player

Rowan University senior defender Julianna Giordano was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Giordano, a Millville High School graduate, led the Profs to a pair of shutouts. In a 2-0 win over Rutgers-Camden, she had a goal and an assist.
Earlier in the week, her twin, Olivia Giordano (Millville) scored the lone goal in Rowan’s 1-0 win over New Jersey City. She has a team-leading eight goals to go with two assists.
Rowan (8-1) is ranked 17th in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25. The Profs have allowed just two goals and have posted seven shutouts this season.
Faith Slimmer (Ocean City) had an assist in College of Charleston’s 4-0 win over Hampton.
Summer Reimet (Ocean City) had an assist in Monmouth’s 2-1 win over Hofstra.
Mary Greco (Millville) had a goal and an assist in Frostburg State’s 2-0 win over Charleston (West Virginia).
Corinne Morgan (Cedar Creek) scored the lone goal in Kutztown’s 1-0 win over Bloomsburg.
Abby Stephens (Lacey Township) had two assists in Arcadia’s 4-0 win over Muhlenberg.
Kaydence Oakley (Wildwood) scored in Kean’s 5-1 loss to Montclair State. She scored in a 2-1 win over Ramapo.
Men’s soccer
Kody Besser (Lacey) had an assist in Bloomsburg’s 2-0 win over West Chester.
Ethan Torpey (St. Augustine Prep) assisted on the game’s lone goal in Arcadia’s 1-0 win over Eastern.
James Cahill (Pinelands Regional) scored and then assisted on the winning goal in the 88th minute of Drew’s 4-3 victory over Immaculata.
Jason Barragan (Bridgeton) had an assist in Rowan’s 3-0 win over New Jersey City.
Field hockey
Alex Graffius (Holy Spirit) scored the winning goal in the 64th minute of Delaware Valley’s 2-1 victory over Hood.
Julianna Medina (Mainland Regional) scored in FDU-Florham’s 2-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy. In a 4-1 win over Neumann, Medina scored three times and Lindsey Pampalone (Southern Regional) scored.
On Monday, Medina was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Offensive Player of the Week.
Emmah Devlin (St. Joseph) scored in Kean’s 3-1 loss to DeSales. In a 6-1 win over Imaculata, Shannon Conroy (Southern) had a goal and an assist, Devlin scored and Julianna Cannizzaro (Barnegat) added an assist.
Kylie Elwell (Egg Harbor Township) scored in Rowan’s 4-3 overtime victory against Lynchburg.
Katie Haye (Oakcrest) had an assist in Widener’s 6-1 win over Arcadia.
Men’s cross country
Rider’s Santino D’Amelio (Southern) placed 30th in the College 8K in 25 minutes, 12.5 seconds at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh. Saint Joseph’s Matt Hoffman (Ocean City) placed 44th (24:57.7) in the Open 8K.
Women’s cross country
Rider’s Maddie Dischert (Atlantic City) placed 55th in the 6K Brown race (22:07.6) at the Paul Short Run. Saint Joseph’s Chloe Care (Ocean City) finished 102nd (22:40.9). Villanova’s Maeve Smith (Ocean City) finished 72nd in the 6K Gold race (21:03.6).
Women’s volleyball
Jessica Smart (Southern) had 11 kills in Rowan’s 3-0 win over Ramapo. She had nine kills in a 3-0 win over DeSales. She had 12 kills and three digs in a 3-0 win over Brooklyn.
Men’s golf
DeSales’ Matthew Smith (Hammonton) tied for sixth with a two-round 147, including a 1-under-par 71, at the DeSales fall classic. He shot five birdies during his 71, including four on the back nine.
Men’s swimming
James Haney (Atlantic City) swam on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (3:03.18) in Delaware’s 201-83 win over Old Dominion. He placed second in the 200 free (1:42.63) and third in the 100 butterfly (52.34).
Michael McCarthy (St. Augustine) placed fourth in the 1,000 free (9:43.75) in UNC Wilmington’s 224.5-73.5 loss to Georgia.
Michael Wojciechowicz (EHT) and Max Smilevski (EHT) swam on Montclair State’s winning 200 free relay (1:27.23) at the College of Staten Island Kickoff. Wojciechowicz placed third in the 100 free (49.45), and Smilevski placed second in the 200 free (1:49.05).
On Monday, Smilevski was named the NJAC Rookie of the Week.
Women’s swimming
Scarlett McGlinchey (Our Lady of Mercy) was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.74), second in the 200 individual medley (2:05.99) and third in the 200 butterfly (2:05.98) in Duke’s tri-meet sweep of East Carolina (202-59) and Boston College (207-54).
Maine’s Kendra Canale (Cedar Creek) was sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:05.06) in a non-scoring meet with New Brunswick.
