Saturday night (September 27) marked the first Strictly Come Dancing live show this year, with Ross King stepping onto the dance floor to perform the Cha Cha Cha, alongside his partner Jowita Przystał.
The entertainment correspondent, who typically delivers the latest Hollywood news on ITV’s Lorraine, has jetted back to the UK to participate in the BBC programme, accompanied by his girlfriend.
Whilst Ross and Jowita awaited their marks, Ross disclosed he had support in the audience, as his girlfriend had travelled 5000 miles to be present.
“It’s so lovely that my girlfriend flew all the way, 5000 miles. I said, ‘Come tonight Bridget,’ because there might not be too many of these,'” he remarked, as she was seen laughing in the crowd. His sister Elaine was also there offering encouragement, reports the Mirror.
Despite the support from his girlfriend and sister, the panel weren’t particularly impressed, awarding the duo the evening’s lowest marks, with Craig branding it “very awkward”.
Sadly, he managed just 10 points from the judges, with Craig and Shirley each delivering a disappointing 2.
Ross’s romance with girlfriend Bridget follows his split from his second spouse Brianna Deutsch. The pair married in 2015, before quietly parting ways seven years later. His first marriage was to Charley King, lasting from 1999 to 2006.
Ross’ disappointing scores follow what has already been a turbulent series for Strictly Come Dancing, with two celebrities forced to withdraw due to injury.
Just days after the line-up was revealed, Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn pulled out of the programme, explaining that he had been battling “a high level of stress and a little bit of grief”.
He shared on Instagram that his struggles had “manifested physically” for the first time, causing “a spike in my vitals as an area of concern”.
Shortly afterwards, it was confirmed that former Emmerdale actor Lewis Cope would step into his shoes.
“I’m so excited to be swapping the Dales for the dance floor and joining this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. I’ve always been a fan of the show and cannot wait to get started!” he said in a statement.
The casting difficulties didn’t end there, as this week, Love Island champion Dani Dyer disclosed that she had been compelled to withdraw due to a fractured ankle.
Viewers were left anxiously wondering whether Dani would be replaced, or if her partner Nikita Kumzin would sit out the series.
However, on Friday morning, it was confirmed that West End performer and former Love Island champion Amber Davies would step in – performing the Waltz with Nikita on Saturday.
Speaking after the sudden announcement, Amber stated: “This has been the craziest 24 hours of my life. I’ve watched Strictly with my family since I was younger and to now be part of the show is a dream come true. I’m going to give it my all and I am sending Dani well wishes for a speedy recovery. I hope I do her proud.”
