On Friday, during the morning foursome match at Bethpage Black, Team Europe gave it hard to the USA, jumping to a 3-1 lead.
But Team Red, White and Blue didn’t back down. Keegan Bradley’s four-ball squad answered with fire in the afternoon, clawing back momentum. The shift was not only visible on the scoreboard, but it rippled through the crowd as Bethpage went louder.

The New York energy was already buzzing after President Donald Trump’s arrival. And as Bradley’s team brought the fight, the crowd responded with volume and, at times, used it to distract players.
For Team Europe and world No. 2 Rory McIlroy, it was more than just background buzz, and he lost his cool there.
Paired with Shane Lowry, the Masters winner was facing Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay. Lowry rolled in a birdie on the 11th hole, and as the group transitioned toward the 12th tee, McIlroy appeared visibly frustrated.
In a moment captured on video and reposted by Nuclr Golf on X, McIlroy was seen reacting to the crowd. “Rory McIlroy has flipped the bird to the crowd at Bethpage,” the caption read.

An official walking with the group was seen calming McIlroy down as they moved to the next hole.
This isn’t the first time McIlroy faced heat from the crowd.
During the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine, Rory McIlroy tackled harsh heckling from the crowd, including crude insults and repeated chants of “Sweet Caroline,” a pointed jab following his recent breakup with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.
And earlier this week, McIlroy had warned that Bethpage Black could be “a pretty hostile environment,” predicting that something would inevitably boil over.
