Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry to anchor Team Europe in Friday fourballs in front of Donald Trump

Close friends Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry will go out in the fourth and last match of the Friday afternoon fourballs in the Ryder Cup.at Bethpage Black, with US President Donald Trump among the massive crowd watching the first tee shots. Luke Donald's European team got off to a great start on US soil by winning three of the foursome matches in the first morning session - their best first session performance on the other side of the Atlantic since 2004. McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood underlined their partnership in that format, backing up their two foursomes victories in Rome in 2023 by blowing away Collin Morikawa and Harris English 5&4. Shane Lowry sat out the session but will make his first appearance in his third Ryder Cup alongside Olympics team-mate McIlroy in the fourth fourball as both captains use their full complement of players on the first day. The pair will take on Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns - Cantlay and his foursomes partner Xander Schauffele were taken to the 18th green in the final match left to be determined before they beat Viktor Hovland and Bob McIntyre two up. Burns' first Ryder Cup was in Rome and he partnered Morikawa to a Saturday fourballs win over Ludvig Aberg and Hovland. Like Lowry, he sat out the morning session. McIlroy should be fresher than Cantlay as the Ulsterman's foursomes match ended on the 14th green and their showdown starts at 6.13pm. Lowry and McIlroy were paired up once before in the Ryder Cup, in 2021 at Whistling Straits, and were on the losing side. Since then they teamed up to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last year. Friday Fourballs 17:25 - Scottie Scheffler/JJ Spaun vs Jon Rahm/Sepp Straka 17:41 - Ben Griffin/Bryson DeChambeau vs Tommy Fleetwood/Justin Rose 17:57 - Cameron Young/Justin Thomas vs Ludvig Aberg/Rasmus Hojgaard 18:13 - Sam Burns/Patrick Cantlay vs Rory McIlroy/Shane Lowry
