The roof of a bus has been ripped off after it hit a low bridge in a Greater Manchester town. The Bee Network bus, operated by Go North West, collided with the bridge on Weston Street in Bolton at around 7.45pm this evening (Friday November 7). No passengers were on board at the time and the driver of the bus is understood not have suffered serious injuries. The rail bridge, which is located in the Burnden area, south of Bolton town centre, is 3.7m high and clearly marked 'low bridge'. According to Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), the bus was being driven back to the depot at the time of the incident. Photos from the scene show the extensive damage to the vehicle with the entire roof taken off and left lying on the road. A TfGM spokesperson said: “At around 7.45pm tonight, an out of service bus collided with a low bridge on Weston Street in Bolton , causing extensive damage to the vehicle’s roof. "The bus, operated by Go North West, was being driven back to the depot at the time of the incident, was not in service and had no passengers on board. “ Greater Manchester Police attended the scene and the road has been closed as a precaution while the bus is moved. "Thankfully there were no passengers on board and we understand that the driver has not suffered serious injuries.
