Ronda Rousey’s UFC stardom branded a myth by fan favorite Octagon analyst

Ronda Rousey is not the star she believes she ever was during her UFC run, according to one of the Octagon’s most vocal voices. Linked with a massive return to the sport in recent weeks, inaugural bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey has been warned that it would serve her well to stay retired from combat sports, however. But amid links to a staggering UFC White House comeback — a whole 10 years since her final outing in the promotion, Rousey has drawn some criticizm for her recent opinion on the run of a Russian star. However, according to a former title challenger-turned brash analyst, the Riverside grappling ace is likely overplaying her stardom in mixed martial arts. Chael Sonnen rips Ronda Rousey’s stardom claim Considering herself one of the greatest fighters to ever grace the cage, Rousey has been shot down in achievements as well as star power by former two-weight title challenger Chael Sonnen. Providing a laundry list of damning examples, analyst Sonnen claimed Rousey’s attraction amongst the masses in terms of star power is nothing more than a myth. “She (Ronda Rousey) doesn’t have a merchandise record. She doesn’t have a PPV record,” Sonnen told Ariel Helwani. “She’s not even in the top 10. She doesn’t have a live gate record. She’s not even in the top 10. She never did. “It’s not like she had these records and I came along and took them. Or Conor (McGregor) came along and took them. She never had them. There is no truth to the story of Ronda the star,” Sonnen continued. “…It’s not true.” Ronda Rousey did hold a UFC record Defending her bantamweight belt six times in total during her successful run in the promotion, Rousey did set a UFC record during that title reign, however. And while only holding the record in question for less than a year, Rousey did beat out former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. Before the spectacular 13-second knockout win for Conor McGregor against Jose Aldo at the end of the year, Rousey submitted Cat Zingano with a stunning armbar in just 14 seconds earlier that same year.
