Ron Perlman Launches Asylm; Sets Kelly Marie Tran & David Dastmalchian Movie

EXCLUSIVE: Award-winning actor and producer Ron Perlman is launching a new film, TV and new media studio, Asylm Studios, which will be based in Los Angeles. Perlman co-founded Asylm with Willie Morris, who has founded multiple verticals across the fast growth consumer, new and traditional media, and technology space. In addition, the Asylm Studios’ will be providing production financing to Auden Bui’s (The Lost City of Tomorrow) feature directorial debut, the psychological thriller Kodak Super-XX starring Kelly Marie Tran and David Dastmalchian. The neo-noir is billed as “a haunting burn about loneliness, art, and the moment creation and obsession blur into one.” Tony Rettenmaier (They Cloned Tyrone) wrote the movie and will produce with Juel Taylor, Josh Feldman and Sean King O’Grady for Death Ground Films. Also producing are Dastmalchian and Jen Iacobino for Good Fiend. Executive producers include Feras Majid Shammami for Robinwood7, and Perlman and Willie Morris for ASYLM Studios. Perlman is looking to bring changed to antiquated studio models. As such, Asylm Studios will offer equitable profit-sharing at the center of its business model, ensuring that writers, directors, crew members and production staff share in the success of each project. Perlman received two Emmy noms for his turn on CBS’ Beauty and the Beast, made famous the titular role in the Hellboy franchise, played Clay Morrow in the hit series Sons of Anarchy, and voiced the narrator in the Fallout video game series. “Asylm Studios will be a sanctuary for bold storytelling – a home for creators who refuse to conform. The launch of our studio is in direct response to the classic playbook corporate America employs whereby it incessantly diminishes the value of the very workforce it depends on. Our mission is simple – give artists the freedom, resources, protection, and partnership they need to craft work that matters – work that resonates across generations and refuses to be forgotten,” said co-founder Perlman. “Together, we’re going to fight back, reclaim the lifeblood of our creative industries, while putting humanity, kindness, and transparency first.” “I’m thrilled that ASYLM Studios selected Kodak Super-XX as its debut feature. The studio represents a return to filmmaking in its purest form – a focus on craft, story, and most importantly, the people who make it happen,” said Bui, director of Kodak Super-XX.
