The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has said that appropriate sanctions will be applied if investigations find any wrongdoing in connection with the collapse of a three-storey building under construction near the Roman Ridge Engineering Centre in Accra on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. 14 construction workers were rescued in critical condition after the building, reportedly managed by Fabrico Builders, caved in. The site is located between a 10-storey apartment complex and the Ghana Institute of Engineering at Roman Ridge. All the victims, believed to be male workers, were rescued and transported to the 37 Military Hospital and the Ridge Hospital for emergency treatment. Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News with Umaru Sanda Amadu, the Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Desmond Ackah, said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the collapse. He added that the Service would not speculate on the cause until the investigations are complete. “The team of investigators have been in the field. Normally, when it happens like this, we don’t do isolated investigations. “We collaborate with relevant institutions, and when they are done with investigations. They would rather be able to tell us what actually led to the collapse and apply sanctions if it has to be. Therefore, we don’t want to preempt that. If it happens as a result of somebody’s negligence, or any other liability, then we can look at that,” he noted. According to Mr Ackah, the structure was intended to serve as a residential apartment complex once completed.
