WORLD-RENOWNED South African rock band The Staccatos rocked the night away on Saturday in front of a packed Windhoek High School Hall. The 81-year-old Brian Le Gassick proved that age is just a number as he and lead guitarist John Leach entertained with originals like Cry to Me and other hit songs from yesteryear.
The band, established in 1961, is one of the longest-running bands in the world—well over 60 years—and the oldest in South Africa.
The event was organised under the auspices of the Association of Veteran Broadcasters for the benefit of aspiring young broadcasters. The aim of the association is to maintain the industry’s standards and to preserve the heritage of broadcasting in Namibia. The Veterans Broadcasters Association also looks at ways to plough back the immense wealth of knowledge and experience accumulated over the years.
