Rock Island Mayor Ashley Harris presented two proclamations during Monday’s city council meeting.
The first was a proclamation declaring Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
The fourth annual block party celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at The Gathering QC, 335 Fifth Ave., Moline.
The second proclamation was for the recently formed Marching Avenir Highsteppers Drill Team.
Kevin Johnson founded the Marching Highsteppers because he wanted a place for kids to safely hang out. He started making plans for the group back in January.
