The perfect source material for a record-breaking movie or show is available, with more issues on the way: Image Comics' Skinbreaker. Comic books are a unique medium where visual art and the written word converge, allowing reader to immerse themselves in sprawling worlds at their own pace. However, they also provide inspiration for high-budget adaptations. Robert Kirkman knows a thing or two about successful adaptations of his comic book work. The Walking Dead's live-action series expanded the world of the eponymous comics into a huge franchise, and Invincible's animated adaptation is constantly reaching new heights over twenty years after the first issue dropped. While Kirkman is busy developing the Invincible franchise, he's also creating a brand-new universe in a new comic title. In an alliance with Cyberforce and New Avengers artist David Finch, Robert Kirkman presents Skinbreaker, which fans of fantasy worlds will more than appreciate. Robert Kirkman & David Finch's Skinbreaker Is A Hollywood Blockbuster In Comic Form Skinbreaker; Written by Robert Kirkman; Art by David Finch, Annalisa Leoni, and Rus Wooton Skinbreaker follows a tribe of orc-like warriors facing the biggest turning point in their history, with the Chieftain's passing of the torch aligning with the arrival of multiple threats to their culture. The first two issues gradually explore the tribe's history and rules, as well as hint at the heroes' future struggle to live up to their ancestors and protect their legacy. In-fighting is inevitable, but so is the seemingly unworthy heir's ascension. If Skinbreaker sounds and looks familiar, it might be because it echoes the best traits from movies like George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road and Mel Gibson's Apocalypto, not to mention hints at character dynamics similar to Robert Kirkman's own The Walking Dead. Skinbreaker's story gives David Finch's art room to shine, as every single page is an extremely detailed artwork of its own. Most notably, Skinbreaker's lush jungles mirror the rich biomes of James Cameron's Avatar. Two issues in, Skinbreaker already promises to be the comic book equivalent to Avatar. Although Skinbreaker doesn't need a live-action adaptation to succeed, its potential as blockbuster movie material shouldn't be ignored. Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead became a live-action TV phenomenon, and Invincible became an animation phenomenon. It might be time for Kirkman's work to make a splash on the big screen. A Skinbreaker Adaptation Needs 1 Key Element To Work Skinbreaker's Heart Lies In Its Art Image's Skinbreaker comics are built entirely around David Finch’s breathtaking art, which is both incredibly detailed and breathtakingly beautiful. The eight-part series was conceived as a single, cohesive artwork, where each page bursts with texture. Finch’s signature chiaroscuro and anatomical mastery are the very essence of Skinbreaker. Each issue was drawn on huge artboards, making every page twice the size of the industry standard. This allows Finch to preserve every intricate detail and keep the visual experience consistent throughout. Skinbreaker's commitment to scale makes the comic nearly impossible to adapt without Hollywood-level precision. If Skinbreaker ever made it to the big screen, only Avatar-tier visual effects and craftsmanship could capture its grandeur and do it justice.
