Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom is due to shake up the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday, but Loki season 2 may have introduced his most powerful rival. Victor von Doom is one of the most impressive villains in comic book history, and his arrival in the MCU is guaranteed to make some huge waves for the heroes of the Sacred Timeline. However, before RDJ's Doom can actually begin his assault on the multiverse, there are some powerful forces that he needs to overcome. And chief among them, it seems as though the first ever enemy that rallied the Avengers together back in 2012 could be the biggest thing standing in Doom's way. Loki Season 2 Set Up Tom Hiddleston's Character As The Multiverse Saga's Hero Tom Hiddleston has had an impressive character arc throughout the MCU that has seen his character change more than potentially anyone else. From being a villain who betrayed his family and attempted to takeover the Earth, to dying to protect his brother, to being brought back as a variant who broke free of his own timeline. Now, the Loki that appeared in both seasons of Loki has evolved to not only embrace his inner hero, but he was single-handedly responsible for pulling the multiverse together when all other plans failed. He was able to learn to control and manipulate time and space at will, and endure millenia before taking his seat at the center of the multiverse. Now, Loki is more akin to the comic book character known as the God of Stories, keeping reality from tearing apart, and sustaining the lives of countless beings throughout countless universes, including the universe that contains Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four. Doctor Doom Will Face Loki In Avengers: Doomsday - Theory Explained While there are several ways that Doctor Doom will presumably be able to escape his own reality in Avengers: Doomsday, it seems inevitable that the character will cross paths with Loki at some point, considering Loki's new position. Doctor Doom could use Reed Richard's teleportation technology, or young Franklin Richard's boundless powers, or some other method to enter Earth-616, but his ambition is likely to extend much further than just one reality. Instead, Doom is likely to work towards building a multiversal Battleworld, where he pulls in heroes and villains from across the multiverse. And if this is the case, then he is almost certain to draw the attention of Loki, the god who is holding the multiverse together. At that point, Doom will have quite a challenge in taking down the significantly empowered Loki. Loki Is One Of The Most Powerful MCU Characters Heading Into Avengers: Doomsday Loki may have been easily overpowered by heroes like Hulk and his own brother at an earlier point in the MCU. However, the Loki that appears at the end of Loki season 2 is not the same character. Beyond being a literal variant of the character, he has lived much longer, and acquired new abilities thanks to his travels through the multiverse. Now, Loki stands with the ability to control time, space, and reality. He literally holds the strings of the multiverse in his hands, and was solely responsible for keeping them alive when they were about to expire and fade from existence. Sustaining all of existence must require an unimaginable level of power, which means Loki is not the pushover he once was. Will Doctor Doom Kill Loki in Avengers: Doomsday? But, while Loki has gone on to become much more powerful, he has also developed a greater sense of responsibility. At one time, Loki was willing to manipulate and control others in order to play games. But he now values life in a whole new way, and if he believes that Doom will extinguish life across a number of realities, he may submit to his demands. Of course, it would make sense for Loki to use his newfound powers to overpower and defeat Doom, but there is no telling how this master manipulator may force Loki to respond differently. Doctor Doom is capable of extraordinary feats of evil, and he will surely challenge Loki in a way that he has never encountered before. However, if the rest of the heroes, and the numerous teams due to appear in Avengers: Doomsday are able to find a way to band together and defeat Doom, then Loki could stand a chance. Unfortunately, it seems as though Doom could recruit heroes to his side, and if he is able to locate Loki's weaknesses, like his brother Thor, he could get the upper hand.
