A Rising Sun man was arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading police on a pursuit through Cecil County on Tuesday, according to Maryland State Police. John Wells, 24, faces multiple charges, which include taking a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, and animal cruelty, among other offenses. Additionally, Wells received several traffic citations, including reckless and negligent driving, authorities reported. ALSO READ | Police seek suspect who fled with cash on foot after daytime Dunkin' heist in Laurel On November 11, shortly after 3 p.m., officers responded to a business on Fletchwood Road in Elkton after a victim reported that their vehicle, with their dog inside, had been stolen. Officials stated that the suspect fled the scene with the vehicle, and after a brief pursuit, they were able to locate him. Wells began to flee on foot, but was soon taken into custody, where police then recovered a loaded handgun from the scene. Police noted that they believed Wells let the dog out while abandoning the vehicle, and the dog was picked up by someone and taken to animal control. Wells is held without bond at the Cecil County Detention Center.
