Farah Khan has shared an emotional memory of late actor Rishi Kapoor, revealing how she broke down when she first heard of his cancer diagnosis. The filmmaker said the actor’s response, however, was filled with his trademark humour and optimism.
During a cooking vlog shoot at Riddhima Kapoor Sahni’s Delhi home, Farah recalled dialling Kapoor right after the news reached her. “I remember when I got the news, I called Chintu and started crying on the phone, and he was so positive, he kept saying, ‘are chup beth yaar hota rehta hai, kuch nahi hai, main theek hojaaunga (Hey, calm down, yaar. These things happen, it’s nothing, I’ll be fine),’” she said.
Riddhima, who is soon making her Bollywood debut with Kapil Sharma, also reflected on those difficult days. “I never left Samara for three years. The first time I ever left Samara was when Dad got sick. Before Covid, when he was diagnosed.”
Farah also remembered her early years working with Rishi Kapoor. “The last film that Chintu (Rishi Kapoor) did as a hero, Hum Dono, was one of my first movies as a choreographer. He tried to bully me left and right. Then I had to give it back to him. And once you do that, he’s fine. Plus, he worked with my dad in Raffuchakkar.”
Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2018 and spent nearly a year in New York undergoing treatment. He returned to India in 2019, resumed work briefly, but his health worsened in 2020. He died on 30 April 2020 in Mumbai at the age of 67.
On the work front, Farah Khan recently choreographed Tamannaah Bhatia for Aryan Khan’s debut series Ba**ds Of Bollywood*, where the song Gafoor became a viral hit.
Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, daughter of the late Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, is gearing up for her own Bollywood acting debut with her first film tentatively titled Dadi Ki Shaadi (DKS) alongside Neetu and comedian Kapil Sharma.
