Rigo schools RL take next step

THE RIGO Schools Rugby League broke new ground with both their U19 and U17 select teams making their debut in the Central Dabaris Academy schools trials that was staged from September 9- 11 at Baruni village in NCD.

It was first of its kind, for our schoolboys to come and participate in this development program, said Rigo Schools RL president George Enane.

Enane said: “The boys took on the challenging atmosphere and environment to proudly represent Rigo district.

“And I’m happy to say the Rigo Schoolboys stood tall with confidence and courage.

“This is what should have been done a long time ago.

“Having them (boys) experience a higher level of competition and exposing them with their home-grown skills sets a strong foundation for the future,” he said.

“We carry the burden by shouldering Rigo on our shoulders.

“This is our future setting a pace of nurturing and building the next players of Rigo and Papua New Guinea.”

Enane made the point that the struggle to get over the hurdle of opening a pathway for them to succeed has come to pass.

“Our challenge now is managing that pathway, so that our future Rigo prospects have a second chance opportunity to choose a career pathway in rugby league as well.”
