Ricky Hatton's last known public appearance as he belts out Oasis song in Tenerife bar

Ricky Hatton was spotted showing his unwavering support for an Oasis reunion , long after being one of the first to witness their highly anticipated comeback. In what is believed to be his final public outing before the news broke of his death aged 46 on Sunday, the boxing legend was seen in early August belting out the lyrics to one of Liam and Noel Gallagher’s most iconic songs. A week later it was reported that during a bar visit in Costa Adeje, Tenerife, the guitarist from the live band invited a man to join him on stage for a rendition of Oasis ‘ hit Wonderwall. And when the man stepped onto the stage, 41-year-old Carly Leahy from Blackpool recognised him as none other than boxing legend and friend of the Gallagher brothers, as reported by the Manchester Evening News . In a video shared online by Carly, Ricky can be seen jumbling the famous line: “By now, you should have somehow realised what you’ve got to do.” He instead mumbled something along the lines of: “Somehow, you should have somehow [inaudible] what you’ve got to do.” Then, rather than singing “and all the roads we have to walk are winding”, he repeated himself to belt out “and all the roads that lead us there are winding and all the lights that lead us there are blinding”. Chicago’s Sports Bar and Grill also posted a video of Ricky belting out another Oasis classic, Don’t Look Back in Anger, whilst sporting a Hawaiian flower lei around his neck. The caption alongside the clip read: “Top bloke and what a great sport….Landed, straight to Chicagos! Top Pal,” with those following quick to cheer him on and suggesting he make it a regular slot. Carly also had nothing but praise for the boxing legend, insisting he was “so patient and kind” to punters in the bar who wanted to meet him following his spontaneous performance. She added: “Afterwards, he was so patient and kind to everyone who approached him, so that was quite nice. The kids were over the moon to see him. Some people have really gone in on him, but he was on his holiday, enjoying himself.” Carly also revealed how Ricky, who was set to make his boxing return in December before news of his tragic death, even made time to pose for photographs with fans after his show, though she didn’t get one herself as she chose not to disturb him. This follows Ricky, who has maintained friendships with the Oasis stars for years, being among the first to witness their reunion on stage after more than 15 years when they performed in Cardiff in July during their Oasis Live ’25 tour. The evening proved quite eventful as reports suggested Ricky was subsequently unable to attend his own boxing comeback announcement in Dubai, having sustained an injury from his sunglasses whilst watching the Welsh gig. This came after the Manchester City devotee, who was escorted to the ring by Noel and Liam for his 2008 victory over Paulie Malignaggi, spoke candidly about witnessing Oasis’s reunion. “I didn’t think they were going to get back together,” he confessed to Vegas Insider. “Noel has said himself, when the fallouts happen then it’s over. Thankfully, he’s swallowed his pride, and they’ve got back together, and I’m made up.” He went on to say: “I’m excited to see them perform all of the old songs, and if they can get together and make new songs, how good is that? “All of the old stuff is going to be great to hear again and the thought of the new songs they could come up with is exciting times. “It would be brilliant to see a new album. I’m chuffed for them as brothers, never mind as a music fan, and the family, because the fallout must’ve been hard for the family. I know that as I fell out with certain members of my family and know how tough it is. I’m happy for their mum and those two as brothers.” Join the Daily Record’s WhatsApp community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.
