In an old interview with Boxing News, the superstar said: “He did a question and answers and someone said, ‘Roberto, do you know our boxing prospect, Ricky Hatton’? He went, ‘No, but I’ll look out for him for a number of years’.

“I never met him after that, and then I went to the WBA convention in Panama, and my friend got a phone call, he said, ‘It’s Roberto’, he went, ‘Roberto, who’? He went, ‘Roberto Duran, is Ricky Hatton coming to Panama to the WBA convention’? He went, ‘I’ll pick him up with my brother’.

“He was there curbside, he picked me up with his brother, took me to his bar, he got me up on the karaoke. I don’t know who your hero is, but that was something else, I love you, Roberto.”
