Ireland would be mad to steer our economy clear of the United States because of what its president Donald Trump has done. But we must accept that in future, the US may want to steer clear of us.
There are two big over-arching theories about what will happen to the US in the coming years. One scenario says that after the turbulence and destructiveness of the Trump years, the US will reset back to some form of consistent, predictable approach to diplomacy and trade. It won’t be quite business as usual, but something close to it.
