Rescheduled: Brass Point Bridge to experience two short term closures ahead of large

UPDATE (Friday, Oct. 31, 2025): Bridge closures rescheduled The two planned “short-term closures” of Brass Point Bridge in Seeley’s Bay, as outlined below, have been rescheduled due to “weather conditions,” according to Parks Canada. Originally scheduled to be closed earlier this week (October 29 and 30, 2025) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day, the closure scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, was cancelled due to the extreme rain experienced in the Kingston area and across much of eastern Ontario. That rain continues today, Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, when Parks Canada issued a press release advising that the closure of Brass Point Bridge that was scheduled to occur yesterday will now take place on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. “This two-hour closure is required to safely replace several bridge deck planks as part of ongoing infrastructure renewal efforts,” Parks Canada said (see below for further details). “Signage is being installed at the bridge in advance, and additional signs will be placed on surrounding roads on the day of the work. Motorists are asked to plan their travel accordingly and to exercise caution in the area.” Original article (Friday, Oct. 24, 2025): Brass Point Bridge in Seeley’s Bay will experience two “short-term closures” next week, according to Parks Canada. In a media release from the Rideau Canal National Historic Site arm of Parks Canada, the federal agency stated that the bridge will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 29 and Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day. “These two-hour closures are required to safely replace several bridge deck planks,” Parks Canada stated. “Signage is being installed at the bridge in advance, and additional signs will be placed on surrounding roads on the days of the work. Motorists are asked to plan their travel accordingly and to exercise caution in the area.” As previously reported, Parks Canada is preparing for a large-scale Brass Point Bridge project, which will include the replacement of the swing bridge and rehabilitation of the fixed bridge, upgrades to roadway infrastructure, and repairs to associated bridge components. According to the release, the project is currently out for tender, and Parks Canada said it anticipates construction will begin later this winter. Once the contract is awarded and the construction schedule is finalized, Parks Canada will “share more information, including details about a second upcoming community information session.” The bridge project will require a long-term closure of the crossing to vehicular traffic, which is now expected to begin in early 2026 and conclude by the end of 2027, according to the release. During construction, a detour route will be provided for vehicular traffic, Parks Canada noted. Navigation for watercraft on the Rideau Canal will remain open. Parks Canada said it appreciates the community’s continued patience and understanding as this important infrastructure renewal project progresses. “These efforts will ensure the long-term safety, reliability, and heritage value of this key crossing on the Rideau Canal National Historic Site,” the national parks agency stated.
