Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is considering a run for president or the U.S. Senate in 2028, Axios reported early Friday.
Her potential decision could have an impact on the trajectory of the White House race or Democratic leadership in the upper chamber — as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer will be up for reelection. People familiar with her operation are still weighing which route, according to the outlet.
The news comes as Ocasio-Cortez has campaigned across the country in recent months, Axios reported. She has joined Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on his national “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, while she has visited parts of New York state this summer.
“Plattsburgh, we are here because every town, every city, every neighborhood in this state matters. Every corner matters. No one deserves to be ignored,” she said during one stop.
Axios also revealed that millions have been invested to grow her social media presence and a list of possible donors and supporters to expand her fundraising campaign.
“Her team has spent more on digital advertising than almost any other politician in 2025, and as a result, they have brought in hundreds of thousands of new small-dollar donations,” Kyle Tharp, the author of a media and politics newsletter that closely tracks online spending, told Axios.
The outlet emphasized that Ocasio-Cortez, 35, has yet to make a decision on her political future, but her team is hoping to give her options. She has still been floated has a presidential frontrunner in recent polling.
