A 16-year-old spectator reportedly plummeted 75 feet to his death while attempting to jump between freeway ramps during an illegal sideshow in Crockett, California, early Saturday morning.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the teenager allegedly climbed over a concrete safety barrier at the Pomona Street on-ramp to westbound I-80 near the Carquinez Bridge, according to ABC 7 News. The teen tried to leap across a gap between ramps before falling to the ground below, CHP stated.
More than 100 vehicles blocked roads near Pomona and Merchant Streets for the sideshow around 3:30 a.m., according to CHP. Drone footage captured spinning cars, tire smoke and crowds gathering while participants shot fireworks into the air.
“I was standing up here, in my window, watching the thing for an hour,” said Jim Delisle, a Crockett resident who witnessed the event.
“Yeah, I think he was trying to jump from one side of the on-ramp to the other,” he added. (RELATED: Teen Carjacking Suspects Freed After DOGE Staffer Assault)

Scott Cranston, another local resident, heard the commotion from his deck. “I was shocked,” Cranston said after learning about the death.
“But the sideshow is just a matter of there would be a fatality. They’re hanging out of cars, they are recklessly driving,” he told the outlet.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity. CHP continues investigating and seeks witnesses who saw the incident or events leading to it.
Law enforcement officials warned that sideshows pose serious dangers to both participants and spectators, who face potential penalties for involvement in the illegal gatherings.
