The Pelicans are 0-4, and the noise around head coach Willie Green is getting louder. According to Brett Siegel and Chris Dodson of ClutchPoints, New Orleans has held “serious” internal discussions about Green’s job status. The team entered the season expecting to bounce back under new executive VP Joe Dumars, but early results have been ugly — blowout losses to Boston and Denver followed narrow defeats to Memphis and San Antonio. Sources told ClutchPoints that several Pelicans players have grown frustrated with Green’s rotation choices, and there’s a belief around the league that he may have lost the locker room. The Pelicans play the Clippers on Friday and the Thunder on Sunday before heading home. Per the report, a decision on Green could come shortly after that trip. Assistant coach James Borrego would be the leading candidate to take over if the team makes a move. Green, 44, has gone 148-184 since taking over in 2021. The Pelicans made the playoffs twice under his watch, including a 49-win campaign in 2023-24, but haven’t advanced past the first round. Following Wednesday’s 34-point loss in Denver, Green told NOLA.com’s Rod Walker that the team has to “dig down and find our identity.” “We have to believe in each other,” Green said. “The first order of business is you’ve got to compete harder, play harder, play more together, and the belief has to be there.”
