Renowned broadcaster, and former politician Doug Hoyte has died.
CBC understands that he passed away last night following a brief illness.
Mr. Hoyte was best known for his commanding presence and distinctive voice as an anchor for many years on the CBC Evening News, where he became a household name across Barbados.
His years in broadcasting made him one of the island’s most recognisable and respected media figures, noted for his professionalism and warmth on screen.
In addition to his broadcasting career, Hoyte was involved in business and community service, operating in the hospitality sector and at one time entering the political arena.
Colleagues and friends have described him as a man of conviction, humour, and dedication to public communication.
Tributes have begun to pour in from across the media fraternity and the wider public, many recalling his contribution to the development of local television journalism and his mentorship of younger broadcasters.
