Reese Witherspoon Finally Gets to Play Tourist in Wells Fargo’s Travel Ads

Academy Award-winning actor and film producer Reese Witherspoon sees travel through fresh eyes in a Wells Fargo campaign showcasing its Autograph Journey Card.
Created by BBDO New York and directed by celebrated filmmaker Taika Waititi, “Reese’s Journey” features Witherspoon in a comedic series of cultural and linguistic clashes while on her travels in London and Paris.
The hero film is based in London, where Witherspoon discovers pubs, curry restaurants, soccer matches, and chirpy cab drivers. Shorter spots take place in both the British and French capitals.
The campaign is based on the idea that celebrities like Witherspoon rarely get to experience the places where they travel for work.
“They’re often rushed through destinations at a surface level,” said Greg Ketchum, executive creative director at BBDO New York. “Rarely do they get to enjoy a destination on a more personal level — the way we might when we’re traveling on vacation.”
Wells Fargo is also partnering with Witherspoon’s media company, Hello Sunshine, by sponsoring a music performance and fireside chat at this month’s Shine Away, an annual two-day event focused on women’s stories and empowerment.
As part of the collaboration, Witherspoon will continue to speak about confidence and financial decisions over the next three years.
“Reese’s authenticity and commitment to empowering others aligns perfectly with our mission to help customers feel confident in their financial choices,” Marcia Osborne, chief marketing officer of consumer lending at Wells Fargo, said in a statement. “This campaign is about more than travel. It’s a call to embrace adventure and the spirit of exploration.”
