‘Really great business’ – Hasselbaink names ‘exciting’ Chelsea signing who’s better value than Isak
Former Chelsea star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes the Blues have done some “really great” business in regards to the deal for Alejandro Garnacho.
Chelsea signed Garnacho for £40m from Manchester United in the summer, and the Argentine was one of five attacking signings.
Garnacho’s arrival certainly divided opinion, but he’s shown some glimpses of what he can offer in the limited minutes he’s played so far.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on Alejandro Garnacho
Garnacho only wanted Chelsea this summer despite interest from other clubs, and he made his debut earlier this month in the 2-2 draw against Brentford.
The 21-year-old was left on the bench against United, but was handed his first start against Lincoln in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.
Garnahco showed some moments, although struggled to have a meaningful impact on proceedings and was replaced after 59 minutes.
Jamie O’Hara had some advice for Maresca about Garnacho after the game, but Hasselbaink believes signing the Argentina international was really good business.
“They wanted four wingers and he is the fourth one coming in,” he said as quoted on X.com.
“He’s exciting, and has got lots of Premier League experience. He’s direct and quick, he scores goals and also provides assists.
“He’s got lots of games in the Premier League, and they only paid £40million for him. If you look at Elanga or Isak and a lot of other players, the big money that they have gone for, Chelsea have done some really great business for Garnacho.”
Chelsea well stocked in the wide areas
The Blues have plenty of competition in the wides areas with Garnacho competing for a starting position with Jamie Gittens on the left.
Pedro Neto can also play on the left, but he’s set to compete with Brazilian youngster Estevao Willian for a place on the right wing.
Garnacho may have to become more versatile at Chelsea, and show he can be useful on the right side as well if he wants to get regular minutes.
The winger could be in line for his start league start against Brighton and it will be interesting to see who Maresca goes with.
