Real estate scam sweeping Aussie town

The flyers are being circulated around businesses in Mission Beach in Far North Queensland, emblazoned with the name and logo of well-known agency Tropical Property Mission Beach.

In an image released by police, the flyer announces a “collaboration” with a Brisbane-based advertising company Guest Services Worldwide Pty Ltd, where local Mission Beach businesses can pay to be promoted in a upcoming property brochure.

“This professionally produced guide will be utilised at appraisals, open homes and within our office to assist clients through their property journey,” the flyer claims.

“This guide will serve as a valuable resource to help them better understand the local lifestyle, while also supporting them through the buying and selling process.

“We invite you to be featured as an associate within the guide. It will be strategically distributed at key client touch points – including property appraisals, open homes, settlements and more – ensuring strong visibility for your brand.”

Police began investigating after Tropical Property Mission Beach confirmed they did not produce or circulate the flyers.

“We have been made aware that there is a person approaching businesses in the Mission Beach Cassowary Coast region seeking to obtain fees for marketing and advertising associated with Tropical Property Mission Beach,” the agency said in a statement on Wednesday.

“We were also approached to be part of a local marketing campaign for our business and we have been mislead as to their intentions.”

Authorities are urging anyone who received the letter to not provide credit card or payment details and to contact police immediately.
