Former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Monday clarified that he has no role in the procurement of medicines that is currently being investigated by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VAC) unit for alleged corruption. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Narayanasamy said the BJP Puducherry president, V.P. Ramalingam, dragged his name into the controversy without knowing the facts. Mr. Ramalingam had questioned the role of the former Chief Minister in the procurement of substandard medicines during the previous Congress government. “The procurement of medicines was done at the level of officers. The VAC has arrested six persons, including former the Director of the Health Department. I am ready for any investigation by the CBI or VAC,” he said. Corruption charges The former Chief Minister said the Congress party had been raising corruption charges against Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Ministers in Puducherry. The BJP president should respond to the charges raised by the Congress party, he added. ‘Cancel SIR’ He said INDIA bloc leaders had submitted a representation to the Chief Electoral Officer P. Jawahar on Monday, demanding the cancellation of SIR in Puducherry. “We wanted the SIR to be cancelled as it was announced in a hurry. Elections are scheduled to be held in Puducherry early next year. Ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu has already approached the Supreme Court on the issue. We, too, will decide on moving the court seeking the cancellation of SIR,” he said.
