Read the brutally honest real estate listing as homeowner goes rogue to expose 'real-life soap opera' at townhouse complex Sydney homeowner's scathing property ad Opens up on 'soap opera' strata tensions READ MORE: Aussie bloke says what everyone is thinking about housing market By NICHOLAS WILSON, NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 03:46 GMT, 5 November 2025 | Updated: 03:54 GMT, 5 November 2025 A fed-up Sydney homeowner has listed his property for sale with a stunningly candid insight into the 'real-life soap opera' unfolding among feuding neighbours. Christopher, who is selling without an agent, opened up about the tensions between residents of his upmarket townhouse complex, in Sydney's inner west, in an advert posted to realestate.com.au. 'If you've ever dreamed of living in a real-life soap opera, congratulations - this is your chance,' he wrote. 'None of the neighbours get along. Every meeting turns into a battle of wills. Emails fly faster than pigeons. 'And if you like reading by-laws at midnight while people argue about waterproofing, you'll fit right in.' When the owners' corporation tried to get the owners to foot a $1million bill for terrace works, half a dozen owners took the corporation to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. These are only two examples of the protracted standoffs between owners within the complex, which Chris claimed made for an icy living environment. Chris warned buyers to 'beware', claiming he wouldn't wish the strata on his 'worst enemy' The Sydney homeowner decided to list the luxury home for sale within a year of moving in, citing simmering tensions between neighbours 'Imagine going home, and every time you drive in, you're just getting death stares from everyone,' he said. Things got so bad, Chris decided to list his townhouse - which he bought thinking it would be his forever home - for sale within a year of moving in. He initially listed the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home for $3.8million and soon found a buyer, with whom he exchanged contracts. However, the buyer decided to put the sale on ice to await the outcome of a sale next door, which Chris's neighbour initially advertised for $2.9million. Rather than wait, Chris decided to drop his asking price to $2.4million and changed his listing to give an unfiltered look at the internal drama between neighbours. 'We're selling cheap because, frankly, we wouldn't wish this strata on our worst enemy,' he wrote on the listing. 'You'll want to order a very detailed strata report, because there's a lot to unpack - mysterious renovations, endless "discussions," and a general vibe of permanent dysfunction. 'That said, the location's great, the property's fine, and if you enjoy drama (or have a law degree), you might even find it entertaining. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is listed for sale at $3.8million 'So yes, buyer beware. At least we're being honest.' Despite the scathing description, Chris said he was inundated with calls, including from nine serious potential buyers. He has since lifted the asking price back to $3.8million and reinstated the listing to remove any mention of the strata tensions. 'Whether you're seeking a family home, an executive retreat, or a high-yield Airbnb investment, this residence offers it all - luxury, location, and lifestyle without compromise,' the updated listing reads.
